Deciding on a burial involves careful planning to create a lasting tribute to your loved one. Understanding all the options available can help you make the best choice for a meaningful remembrance.
This option, also known as "no service, no attendance" (NSNA) burial, involves interring the deceased without a ceremony. This gives you:
Flexibility: Families can arrange a memorial service at a later date at their chosen location
Affordability: Direct burial is the most economical burial option.
This allows customization however you choose - so various service structures can be tailored to meet your family's needs and preferences:
On the same day: Holding a service in a chapel at a cemetery, church or in a non-traditional setting followed by attendance for the burial with a short service at the graveside.
Or, some families hold the burial and graveside service first, then have a memorial function on the same day or at a later date.
Direct Burials: Starting from under $5,000 including transfer on the day to the cemetery plus burial plot opening-closing fees, which are normally paid by you to the funeral director. This cost excludes the cost of the grave & headstone.
Full Service Burial Funeral: Begin at approximately $7,500 for smaller basic funerals with a service. There are many inclusions families request which will push the price up above this.
Burial Plots & Headstones: Prices for burial plots are additional to any funeral fees. In Sydney prices start at approximately $5,000 in outer areas and can vary widely based on location and personal preferences. These are purchased directly from the cemetery by you as the client.
Some families are finding there may be cheaper options to hold a service in regional areas
Interment Maintenance Fee: this is a fee paid directly to the cemetery for the ongoing maintenance of the grave site. How this is applied by cemeteries varies across different cemeteries.
